Hiring An Actos Attorney

Chapin Patients Taking Actos May Need Legal Help

Hiring An Actos AttorneySouth Carolina consistently ranks in the top 10 states with the highest rates of Type 2 diabetes. Between 2005 and 2010, South Carolina ranked number 4 in the nation for rates of Type 2 diabetes, and all the top 10 states were Southern states. This means that a large percentage of the population in South Carolina may have, at some point, taken Actos to treat their Type 2 diabetes, and could be suffering the life-limiting side effects right now – especially bladder cancer.

Actos has been linked in numerous safety studies to an increased risk of developing bladder cancer, especially if the patient takes the medication for two years or more. Many patients have taken Actos for much longer than that, because Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that must be managed with not only lifestyle changes, but prescription medications.

South Carolina’s Residents Suffer Actos Side Effects

Actos was first approved for use in the US by the Food and Drug Administration in 1999, and the generic form – pioglitazone – was approved in 2012. By 2010, studies were being released that showed a link between Actos and bladder cancer, and in light of the safety concerns, Germany and France both banned Actos in 2011.

Currently, a multidistrict litigation against Takeda Pharmaceuticals houses over 3,500 personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits, alleging that the pharmaceutical company failed to warn doctors about the damaging side effects of Actos. One of the bellwether cases showed that Takeda negligently allowed Actos safety studies, conducted by the company in 2001, to be destroyed.

If you have taken Actos to treat your Type 2 diabetes and suffer any of the following symptoms:

  • Shortness of breath or trouble breathing,

  • Dilated neck veins,
  • Swelling of face, fingers, feet, or lower legs,
  • Decreased urine output,
  • Blood in the urine,
  • Increasing bladder pressure without relief, and
  • Weight gain

You may be suffering the side effects of Actos.

Talcum Powder Lawsuit

Anderson Women Who Used Talcum Powder Could Develop Ovarian Cancer

Talcum Powder LawsuitJohnson’s Baby Powder has been around since the turn of the 20th century, and the after-bath product has been marketed not just for children, but also for women. Since the 1970’s, women have used talcum powder products, specifically developed by Johnson & Johnson in most cases, as a body odor-neutralizer after a shower or bath. However, recent medical studies have begun to link talcum powder use to ovarian cancer in women.

Since the first ovarian cancer study was published in 1992, many researchers have examined the link between talcum powder and ovarian cancer, and believe that the cause is trace amounts of asbestos. When talc is mined for talcum powder, it is found in or near deposits of asbestos, which after-bath product manufacturers claim is filtered out successfully. However, the rates of ovarian cancer are unfortunate testimony that even the most trace amounts of asbestos built up in the body over time can cause cancer.

South Carolina Women With Ovarian Cancer Due to Talcum Powder Should File for Personal Injury

At least one study confirmed that daily use of talcum powder or baby powder products can increase the risk of ovarian cancer by 41% due to the asbestos content. In 2013, one of the personal injury cases against Johnson & Johnson was ruled in favor of the plaintiff, but despite the growing number of lawsuits and increasing body of evidence that talcum powder is dangerous, the products still do not feature a warning label about the potential risk of ovarian cancer.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer include:

  • Abdominal discomfort or pain,
  • Gas, indigestion, pressure, swelling, bloating, or cramps in the stomach or intestines,
  • Feeling full even after a light meal,
  • Nausea, diarrhea, or constipation,
  • Frequent urination,
  • Unexplained weight loss/gain,
  • Persistent, unexplained fatigue, and/or
  • Pain during intercourse.

Testosterone Class Action Lawsuit

Goose Creek Men with “Low T” May Suffer Testosterone Therapy Side Effects

Testosterone Class Action LawsuitThe Food and Drug Administration originally approved testosterone therapy, which includes gels, pills, and injections, for medically-caused “low T” or low levels of testosterone. Patients with conditions like hypogonadism or testicular cancer can suffer low levels of testosterone which can affect not only mood, energy, or sexuality, but also hair loss and muscle development or strength.

However, almost as soon as testosterone therapy was approved for a specific number of medical conditions, pharmaceutical companies began marketing “low T” drugs to men over the age of 45. These drugs, according to the pharmaceutical companies, should increase energy and sexual appetite. However, the companies actually marketed testosterone therapy for an off-label use which has had serious side effects on older men, who naturally lose testosterone as they age.

South Carolina Men Using Testosterone Therapy Can Suffer Cardiac Problems

Two major medical studies examined the pros and cons of testosterone therapy for older men, and found that middle-aged and older men who used testosterone therapy were much more likely to suffer heart attacks or strokes than men their age who did not take the drug.

A study conducted by the American Medical Association examined 8,700 men across the US and found that men who took testosterone therapy for three years or more were 30% more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke than men who did not. Another study, published in the medical journal PLoS One, followed 56,000 men – 48,000 of whom were under the age of 65 – for 90 days while they took testosterone therapy, and found that just using testosterone therapy for 3 months dramatically increased the chances of suffering a heart attack or stroke among men over the age of 65.

I Suffered a Heart Attack that I Think Is Related to My Testosterone Therapy

If you or a loved one took testosterone therapy for “low T” and have since suffered a heart attack, stroke, or a loved one has died due to a cardiac event, you may have a personal injury or wrongful death case against the testosterone therapy manufacturer. Call today!
